Sunday School Classes

Sunday School classes meet on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.
Children - Children's Hallway
Our children's Sunday School is divided by age group: Nursery (birth through Pre-K), and Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. These classes follow the Celebrate Wonder curriculum, which takes them on a journey through the Bible. Children will learn Bible stories, create art and crafts, sing and dance, and play games - all focused on helping them develop into disciples of Jesus Christ. The Nursery is staffed by caring workers and volunteers who have experience with young children and would love to spend the morning with your little ones! The Nursery operates during both worship and the Sunday School hour.

Youth Sunday School - The Cove
Our 6th - 12th Grade students meet together for Sunday School in our main youth room. We combine the study of scripture with a discussion-based style that helps our students relate to the issues they experience in their daily lives. There is a rotation of teachers for this class, so the students experience a variety of both material and teaching styles. And, best of all, we almost always have doughnuts!

Koinonia Class - Room 202/204
This class is for adults with a joyful attitude and want to seek the heart of God together. The focus of this class is on friendship, fellowship, and spiritual growth.

The Koinonia class supports a variety of mission projects including: adopting families at Christmas, supporting youth missions, providing meals for the international students at NC Wesleyan College, and more.

Seekers Class - Room 206/207
  • The Seekers is an adult Sunday School class that incorporates dynamic discussion on a wide range of topics from a Christian perspective, ranging from Biblical truths to current events and everything in between.
  • This class tends to study topics over a few weeks at a time, rather than one curriculum that extends throughout the year.

Wesleyan Friendship Class - Room 201
This class has 20 members in the 60+ age range who attend regularly. Our lessons consist of conversations based around stories that have played prominently in the news media in the preceding week and applying scripture, along with our experience, tradition, and reasoning, to the story. Through class discussion, we reaffirm, sharpen, and sometimes reshape our beliefs as we seek an understanding of how God is at work in our world today.

If you have not been to Sunday School lately, come visit our class and check us out!

Aldersgate Class - Room 4
The Aldersgate class is composed of 20-25 retirees, still joyfully serving our church and community! We meet every Monday in Room 4 at 10:00 a.m. We use the Adult Bible Study series literature distributed by Cokesbury, which is designed to "help adults understand the meaning and authority of the Bible for Christian life." We are led in this effort by Jim Dunn, assisted by Carolyn Clay.

Many in our class participate in other activities in the church, such as the Prayer Shawl & Blanket Ministry, Flower Ministry, Men's Club, Senior Adult Fellowship, Women's Circles, and stuffing eggs at Easter for the children's Easter Egg Hunt. Community activities we are involved in include supporting My Sister's House, Salvation Army, Faith Christian Ministries Food Pantry, and Bingo at Brekenridge. We would love to have you join us!

Adult Bible Study

We have a variety of Bible study opportunities for adults that are offered throughout the year. We have done a number of wonderful studies, including several books written by Adam Hamilton and original studies created by our pastoral staff. Everyone is welcome to participate, whether you are a member of Englewood UMC or not. The purpose of all of these studies is to apply what we learn from the Word of God to our lives and to grow in our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We hope you'll consider joining us for one of our studies! Check our Newsletter & Calendar page to see what opportunities we have coming up.
