Sunday School Classes

Sunday School classes meet on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.
Children - Children's Hallway
Our children's Sunday School is divided by age group: Infant Nursery (birth through confident walkers), Toddler Nursery (up to age 4), Kindergarten through Second Grade, and Third through Fifth Grades. These classes follow the Spark Classroom curriculum, which takes them on a journey through the Bible. Children will learn Bible stories, create art and crafts, sing and dance, and play games - all focused on helping them develop into disciples of Jesus Christ. The nursery is staffed by caring workers who have a great deal of experience with young children and would love to spend the morning with your little ones! The nursery operates during both worship services and the Sunday School hour.

Middle School Youth - The Cove
Our 6th - 8th Grade students meet together for Sunday School in our main youth room. This class is currently on a journey through scripture that began with Creation. We combine the study of scripture with a discussion-based style that helps our students relate to the issues they experience in their daily lives. There is a rotation of teachers for this class that alternates on a monthly basis, so the students experience a variety of both material and teaching styles. And, best of all, we almost always have doughnuts!

Senior High Youth - Youth Suite
Our 9th - 12th Grade students meet for Sunday School in their own space in the youth suite.  As our older and more spiritually mature group, this class engages in small group studies that deal with more challenging questions about discipleship and the Christian faith in general. This group enjoys discussion-based lessons that help this discover God's will and direction for their lives.

Koinonia Class - Room 202/204
This class is for adults with a joyful attitude and want to seek the heart of God together. The focus of this class is on friendship, fellowship, and spiritual growth.

The Koinonia class supports a variety of mission projects including: adopting families at Christmas, supporting youth missions, providing meals for the international students at NC Wesleyan College, and more.

Seekers Class - Room 206/207
  • The Seekers is an adult Sunday School class that incorporates dynamic discussion on a wide range of topics from a Christian perspective, ranging from Biblical truths to current events and everything in between.
  • This class tends to study topics over a few weeks at a time, rather than one curriculum that extends throughout the year.

Wesleyan Friendship Class - Room 201
This class has 35 members in the 60+ age range who attend regularly. Our lessons consist of conversations based around stories that have played prominently in the news media in the preceding week and applying scripture, along with our experience, tradition, and reasoning, to the story. Through class discussion, we reaffirm, sharpen, and sometimes reshape our beliefs as we seek an understanding of how God is at work in our world today.

Other activities of this class include providing assistance for families at Christmas, gathering for meals together several times a year, attending performances at the
Dunn Center, and more. If you have not been to Sunday School lately, come visit
our class and check us out!

Aldersgate Class - Room 4
The Aldersgate class is made up of over 20 members, ages 60 and up, that is led by Jim Dunn. Each week the class consists of a lesson, fellowship, and discussion of ways to minister to the aging members of the church, especially those who are homebound or living in nursing homes.

This class is active in the community in a variety of ways including: making stockings for children and ringing bells at Christmas for Salvation Army, giving memorials to remember the passing of members, donating books to the library, visiting nursing homes, taking flowers and food to families in times of need, and more.

Adult Bible Study

We have a variety of Bible study opportunities for adults that are offered throughout the year. We have done a number of wonderful studies, including several books written by Adam Hamilton and original studies created by our pastoral staff. Everyone is welcome to participate, whether you are a member of Englewood UMC or not. The purpose of all of these studies is to apply what we learn from the Word of God to our lives and to grow in our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We hope you'll consider joining us for one of our studies! Check our Newsletter & Calendar page to see what opportunities we have coming up.
